For those who know me, they know that I am a connesiuer of science fiction television. There are few sci-fi shows on television that are genuinely good. Sure Star Trek is fun, and I have enjoyed it for the most part, but who can really argue - it is not that good of a show. Never really has been. There's Stargate SG1, that's ok, but it never really grabbed me. Then came Farscape, which is still one of my favorite science fiction televsion shows of all time. It was a sad day for me when it was cancelled. Equally sad was the day they canceled Firefly, Joss Whedon's science fiction space opera that created in my opinion one of the more plausible outlooks of the future I had seen. One where society is still plagued by racism and classism, where not everything is digital, where there is no such thing as "beaming," where survival is more than simply fighting aliens with spaceships and laser pistols. Firefly was a great vision, but it too was canceled after the first season. I true injustice to those who don't stigmatize the science fiction genre.

But all was not lost. Firefly has been produced into a movie using the same cast and telling a part of the story that was never told on television. The trailer was released yesterday, and it looks awesome. I can't wait.

Of course I wouldn't forget those two - i consider Battlestar Galactica to be one of the best sci-fi shows of all time, and seriously think it is the first sci-fi television series to be an Emmy candidate.

Babylon 5 has got to be one of the best space operas as well.

I didn't forget them, they just didn't seem germane to my post at the time. But you are right, as long as I am creating a laundry list of shows, they should certainly be at the top!
