Movable Type Mongers Presentation

Tuesday I had the pleasure of speaking with the San Francisco Perl Users Group, a.k.a. "San Francisco Perl Mongers." In all honesty, it was the first time I spoke about Movable Type, and I wish I had it to do all over again. Not because I felt I did a poor job, but because you learn so much about the material you present when you present it. You learn what works well, what flows well, what is interesting, and what makes people's eyes glaze over. You also learn from the questions people ask. If I had it to do all over again for example, I would spend more time dedicated to actually demonstrating the creation of a plugin.

Oh well. Next time... that is if Quinn invites me back.

Before I sign off there are a few people I would like to thank:

  1. First, I want to extend a special thank to Quinn for helping to coordinate the event. You are awesome.
  2. Thanks to all those that attended the event. It was great to meet all of you. And remember, Six Apart is hiring! wink-wink-nudge-nudge
  3. And a super-duper special thank to AC Transit, who screwed a perfectly good evening. I thought I would do the fiscally responsible thing for Six Apart and take the bus home as I usally do, because I could easily justify taking a cab and expensing it. But when I got to the bus station, it was pitch black. I huddled with the masses of commuters waiting for a bus. I waited for an hour only to learn later that the buses were picking up passengers somewhere else. Thanks for letting us know. I took a cab, and let two lucky people tag along on my fare. Am I nice or what?

Oh, and one last thing to all those who attended, here is a copy of the presentation I gave, and remember, you can find much more detailed and technical articles [1] [2] about building on Movable Type in a series I am writing for ProNet. Subscribe to that feed to stay up to date with the latest howtos and technical articles about creating plugins for Movable Type.
