My poor little blog

When I first heard of NaBlogWriMo I immediately felt compelled to participate… out of a sense of guilt. A guilt stemming from a feeling that “I never blog anymore.” What’s interesting to me is why I felt that in the first place; because the truth is, I blog all the time. I just don’t blog here.

But the guilt stems from the fact that majordojo might never be my only blog, but it will always be my first blog. In that way it is like my baby, and I honestly feel bad for having neglected it. But when you consider just how many blogs I have, you might understand why majordojo has been so neglected. Its not just a function of time, however. The more blogs I have, the more difficult it is for me to blog here, at majordojo, because it becomes more difficult for me to define majordojo as a blog. Is this where I blog about personal stuff? Not really – that is for my Vox blog. Is there where I blog about my neighborhood? Not really – that is for Walker Watch. Is this where I blog about technology? Well yes, but not exclusively. Is it then where I blog about my various projects? Well, yes, but also no - I have a separate blog for each of them (and some don't have blogs - oh, the horror!). Is this where I blog about work? No – that is what my blog at work is for.

So what is majordojo, and why is my need to define it so paralyzing?

But perhaps that is what the whole point of this exercise: to spur us as bloggers to shed the inhibitions we have and just to write. For me, that means to shed the fear I have of not being eloquent, of not coming across as intellectual enough, of not writing a post that is long enough, of you-name-it.

So this month I will write. I will not strive to find a theme for my writings. I will not try to fit what I write into some master plan. I will just write.

Why not aggregate the content of your other blogs here ? Mark uses this solution, and I plan to do it on my blog too, with Plagger + Plugin::Publish::MT.

I honestly had no idea you had so many blogs. Why are they not linked to from here? Why is there not a Byrne meta-blog (or meta-feed) that I can watch so that I can see when you've posted something new, wherever you've posted it? You're making it way hard on me, man. :)

For what its worth, I tend to do the same thing. I've got my main blog (http://blog.socklabs.com/) then several project blogs (http://blog.socklabs.com/keywordextractor, /infanttracker, /cloudnine, etc) as well as my dadhood blog (http://blog.socklabs.com/dadhood). But that doesn't include my vox blog (http://ngerakines.vox.com/) or my pleonast blog (http://www.pleonast.com/nickg). I think I've got another one floating around the great interweb but I can't remember the url for the life of me.

You need to keep it a little intellectual or you will get shipped off to Iraq.
