Media Manager RC4 Released
Release Candidate 4 is a small but critical release that fixes two bugs and adds a very small feature.
- I fixed a bug that resulted in some users being unable to override the majordojo-20 associates ID with their own.
- I fixed a bug that resulted from changing the name of MTAmazon32 to MTAmazon.
- I changed the name of the two template modules that are installed for you automatically during the installation process to be prefixed by “Sidebar: ”. This makes Media Manager compatible with the Sidebar Manager plugin.
I wish the size of this release was indicative of how close we are to a full-fledged 1.0, but it is not. Development on Media Manager has slowed considerably, but it has not stopped. There is one critical feature I want to finish before releasing it completely:
- Decoupling the published blog review layout code from the Perl code - this should be a separate file so that people can edit and customize it more easily.
Of course it is possible I will do more knowing me… I have not been very disciplined in my release names or process. I keep adding new features to software trying to get to a stable state!! Oops.

Comments
I just upgraded from the original BookQueue to the RC4 of Media Manager and things have gone relatively well. I still am running into it wanting to use majordojo instead of the one I provide but that's not too much of a big deal to fix. The thing I'm running into that I can't figure out is how to actually "edit" an entry--specifically, how do you commit the changes you make to the entry? I don't see any update buttons or anything so I can't save my modifications. Any ideas?

Thanks for the release.
I am running on a Windows Server. And still had to change "$debug = 1" to "$debug = 0" in "App.pm" in order for it to work properly. Plus the path that points to mmanager.cgi is wrong so I get this error when I try to add items to the que: "The system cannot find the file specified." - that is it can't find the mmanager.cgi. The path that I end up with is: movabletype3/plugins/MediaManager/%5Cmovabletype3%5Cplugins%5CMediaManager%5Cmmanager.cgi
This following part of the path: "%5Cmovabletype3%5Cplugins%5CMediaManager%5C" Is added unnecessarily, and when I remove it manually in the URL bar and hit enter, it works fine. But I have to do this everytime I execute mmanager.cgi. And it's time-consuming. Where in the scripts, what file and what line do I need to change in order set the path properly? Thanks.

getting this error in my activity log in MT since putting this load on every time I build a post (MediaManager or regular).
Media Manager died with: Undefined subroutine &MediaManager::Util::debug called at /home/stfammcom/public_html/cgi-bin/mt/plugins/MediaManager/lib/MediaManager/Plugin.pm line 205.

There is a big bug in this version.
When I go to create a New Entry and hit save, or when Re-edit an entry and his save, a get a white screen that says: Status: 302 Moved Pragma: no-cache Edit and Save an entry
I checked with the host, and to make sure that in IIS the CGI/Perl handler is indeed set to the command line handler (perl.exe %s %s) instead of the perl isapi filter (perl.dll).
I am running on a Windows Server. Perl version: 5.8.0 Web server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
I know it's an issue with this plugin because when I disable it, everything works as it should. Any ideas?

Hey there, and thanks for the work on this terrific tool...or I hope it will be! I'm running into the following problem upon attempting to initialize.
An error occurred:
Can't open schema file '\schemas\mysql.dump': No such file or directory at C:\Inetpub\Movable Type\plugins\MediaManager\lib/MediaManager/Install.pm line 99.
Everything is in the right place, permissions are appropriately set and all...but I'm no Perl developer..so at this point, I'm at a loss :(

Sorry to keep bugging...managed to slve my first problem by manually importing that SQL dump using the mySQL admin...which wow, is a lot more robust than it was a year or so ago..
Anyway, now noticing that it seems to be putting status/debug info at the bottom of mediamanager pages, such as messages about initialization of templates, etc. Didn't know if this is a bug, or a debugging feature since its an RC, or if it's by design.
Looks like a great plugin though--keep it up!
(screenshout should be up at http://archives.jpsharp.net/images/media.jpg if you're interested in seeing what I mean at the bottom of the page)

Oops...more fun...this time the mediamanager page fails to load, courtesy of a lack of complete headers...message is: CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.
This happened after I'd been able to add about 8 items to my queue, was trying to click the 'add' link for one more, and started getting this message. I just can't help but feel I've done something wrong somewhere, but it all looks kosher...
Also, don't know if this was by design or not, but seems that unless you explicitly define a static content path in mt-config, things break because the 'default' makes use of a relative link...I might've misread the install readme, but that didn't seem quite clear enough till I got a style-less page the first time I tried! :)
Other than these things, freakin' love this plugin and what it promises to allow me to do...!

Where is the link to download RC3?
RC4 will not work properly, not matter what I do.

If theres any information to share on how to successfully install Media Manager on XP/IIS/MySQL I'd be pleased to hear what the steps needed are...
Posted by: reddev | January 7, 2006 2:08 PM
Reddev, I don't know that I'd call my install 'successful,' since it doesn't seem to work at all anymore (keep getting CGI script returned incomplete headers messages when I try to use the thing), and I actually installed on Server2003/IIS/MySQL, but I actually had to manually add the tables to my MT database...for whatever reason, the install script kept spitting out errors on that part. After that, it was 'successful' for a few hours...hope that helps a little!

Thanks for all your hard work on a great plugin idea!
I finally got this installed and working but I seem to be missing a ton of features and display items.
I don't have a List View or Grid View link. I also do not have a "Created on" or "Last Modified On" info on the "Edit Item" drop down info.
Most disturbingly, I don't have ANY of the stuff shown on Screen shot #4 of your MM tour. The post layout editor and designer is completely missing. All I have on my edit review screen is a set of clickable stars, a small thumb of the book cover, and two buttons called Select Layout & Configure Image that don't do anything when I click on them.
Should all these things be showing up in this release?

You are using the most recent version... the screenshots are just horribly out of date. The toolbar you see actually has all the functionality you see in the old screenshot, it is just better organized.
Posted by: Byrne Reese | January 9, 2006 9:58 PM
Hi Byrne :) Well, the toolbar does nothing when I click on it. So, I still don't get the options. I checked my error logs and nothing seems to be amiss, such as the program not finding a .js file or anything.
What could be wrong?

Wow. Great plugin! Works great & easy install.
Just a couple of things: - when I create a review for an item and go to the Edit Item screen via List View... I get a "Meta Data" tab, but no "Review" tab so I can't get to the Review editor you talk about in the tour. Is this in the latest RC4 or a tease of what is to come? - Also, when in list view mode and I click on "Show display options" link the options appear behind the list and delete button. It works fine in Grid view (I'm using Firefox 1.5)

I installed both MTAmazon and MediaManager today, and they are both showing up in my MT installation as installed plugins. However, I'm still getting the message that "It appears that you do not have MTAmazon installed." Could there be another reason for this (incorrect paths, permissions?), and can you suggest a fix?

Hey man MM looks like an answer to all my problems but I can't get it going. I'm running MT3.2, MTAmazon 1.3.3, and MM RC4. Everything goes smooth I get to the "Welcome to Media Manager!" page and click the "Install Media Manager" button. Which sends me to the "Congratulations: Installation Complete!" page. To help me get started, it lists a few useful links. But if I click any of them it sends me to the "Welcome to Media Manager!" page. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here, was wondering if you could help me out. I read all the documentation, and googled the hell out of it before I came here to bug you. Let me know if something comes to mind ;)

Hi Byrne,
I'm having the same problem Gina has. The toolbar is visible but not functional.
Posted by: John M. Fox | January 17, 2006 4:47 AM
I believe Gina resolved her problem by making sure her StaticWebPath configuration directive was set properly. I believe what is happening is that your browser is attempting to load a javascript file (found in MT's static web directory, often named 'mt-static') that it cannot find.

for those getting the "mtamazon is not nstalled" error message, trying using the stable release of mtamazon instead of the alpha 3.0.
worked for me, and what a lovely tool media manager is.

I too cannot use MM4 with MTAmazon 3.0. Getting the same thing. I'm not a master of this all, but is MTAmazon perhaps not updating some plugindata table somewhere that MM4 is looking for it in?
Posted by: Michael Romero | January 23, 2006 10:20 PM
Other dumb question: I see in the module files for MT Amazon 3.0, you named the packages MTAmazon3. Could this be throwing things off?
Posted by: Michael Romero | January 23, 2006 10:23 PM
This is my last comment for now, I promise. I have fixed it to work with Amazon 3.0!
All changes to be made in Util.pm:
Line 23: change my $p = $MT::Plugin::MTAmazon::plugin; to my $p = $MT::Plugin::MTAmazon3::plugin;
then...
Lines 44 & 45, change devtoken to accesskey on both lines.
I can now access everything fine!

I posted some problems MM RC4 is having with MTAmazon for me on the MTamazon blog comments. Additionally I find that unless I disable RC4, I usually cannot edit any individual entries, especially unpublished drafts. I get a blank page in firefox or a page inaccessible error in IE. Sometimes reloading will get me there, but usually not. Sometimes I am logged out of MT altogether. This started happening right after I installed MM RC4 and quit when I disabled it.

First I fixed the bug like how Mike Romero said above, I next get this error:
An error occurred:
Error adding entry: Insertion test failed on SQL error Column 'mediamanager_catalog' cannot be null
Posted by: conkerer | January 29, 2006 8:26 PM
This is what I get, as far as I can see,
An error occurred:
Can't use string ("DevToken/SubscriptionId not foun") as a HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at lib/MediaManager/App.pm line 722.
The way to solve this is to edit App.pm and do a search and replace of 'devtoken' with 'accesskey'
There should be 6 replacements of that string.

Forget it, don't use MTAmazon 3.0 use the stable version MTAmazon32 that's what Media Manager works the best with. Furthermore, processtags couldn't work with the MTAmazon 3.
So I uninstalled 3.0 and reinstalled 32
