Put your feature requests here!

I get a lot of email from people not only with bugs (although I am getting a lot fewer of those), but also with great ideas for new features. Media Manager 1.0 is almost done. There are 2 issues left that need fixing, and Walt Dickinson has agreed to give Media Manager some CSS love. Also, MTAmazon32 1.3 is almost ready to be released as well. That means Media Manager 1.0 will launch with some snazzy new UI enhancements, and some advanced MTAmazon32 controls like the ability for a system administrator to set a system wide Subscriber and Associates ID, or to let each blog set their own.

But what will Media Manager 1.1 and even 2.0 look like? I want to hear your ideas! Please submit your feature requests to me via the comments of this post.

My wishes:

  1. Random displays of books
  2. Short comment (field) on each book in the reading list

1) A minor report - not a bug, but a typo. When a search returns no results, the following line is displayed: "You were no items returned in your search."

The initial "You" should be "There"

2) Is the css for the display in a review post customizable? For instance, I follow a certain style in displaying images on my site (font size, borders)- is there any way to alter it without going into the entries themselves and altering it by handcoding it for every instance, since there is a span associated with the display? Something like a div id that we can customize in our css files would be great.

3) Adding more levels to the "read" designation, such as Unfinished/Incomplete/Gave Up or something like that.

Adding other fields for the provenance (Own or Rent/Borrow) and the Genre. Ideally yet another field that would be completely customizable, but on which we would also be able to order. (Don't laugh, I have never been diagnosed as OCD, but I do like organizing!)

Security. I would like to be able to set access levels to authors on my blog. I don't want the guest account to be able to edit my media manager stuff.

I have one feature request for MTAmazon32, the AmazonRatingImage I would like to be able to override the default to Amazon's own images and display images of my choice.

I have written a small post on my blog about how this can be achieved eightbehind.com?

Oh, Import/Export: 1) a quick way to export and import the queue between blogs

2) a way to make more than one blog point to the same queue. With more fields, we would be able to maintain a master list and determine which elements to display on different blogs, right?

3) a way to use a list of perhaps ASIN/ISBN's to add a number of books in one go. (e.g. I might use a handheld barcode reader to enter my collection's ISBNs into a text file.)

I would love to have many new MTAmazon tags created for all that great data Amazon has available, especially the miscellaneous stuff listed under the XML element "ItemAttributes". For instance, in my website's "recently watched" section, I might list the DVD for "All About Eve". But I would rather be able to grab the information listed under "TheatricalReleaseDate" (1950) instead of the tag for "MTAmazonReleaseDate" (2003). Other data I'd love to see new MTAmazon tags created for: "PublicationDate", "Director", etc.

I would LOVE to have something like MT's power-editing mode, primarily for the purpose of making quick and easy "status" changes to media items. Or at the very least, the ability to select the status when adding the item to MM.

I also have to throw in my "ditto" on the export/import queue suggestion.

Make Preview work!

Add entries to MT's activity log when a user adds or a removes and item.

The ability to add different catalogues. This would benefit people who are building semi-complex collections who don't want to work around and use unused catlogs or have just simply run out.

I'd like to be able to categorize my Items. For example, when I add a DVD, I'd like to be able to put it into a category, such as "Action Adventure" or "Horror". Then I'd like to be able to display my DVDs by this Category. Another feature that I was thinking of was some way to track if an Item has been loaned to someone else, who that person is, when it was loaned, when it is expected back. I love the Plug-In! Thanks for asking for input!

Ability to have alphabetical ordering of Queue items, when published to blog.

I've just started actually playing around with it again. A couple of things.

You gave the ability to change the name of an item in your queue, but it doesn't appear there is a tag as of yet to access that information.

MTMediaManagerItems only returns 1 item unless lastn specifies otherwise. I'm not sure if this was done by design, but it removes the ability to just return all the results without picking an arbitrarily large number.

I could just be missing these things so please point them out if I am. Also I'd be willing to help out with some coding if you needed it.

Can you have more than one queue per blog?

My wife wanted to put a list of our baby's books she reads to her on her blog, and I'm sure she'd like to do her own books too.

This may be possible, but I'm throwing it out there in case it isn't. The reason is..

I just 10 minutes ago discovered there even WAS an updated bookqueue plugin. I first discovered bookqueuetoo, and now mediaManager. I've been chugging away with the old bookqueue on my own 3.2 blog, guess it's time to update there, too.

Now that I've got it installed, I have an idea.

Prevent me from entering the same item twice. During import, the plugin choked (Could not find Error retreiving Amazon info: in at lib/MediaManager/Util.pm line 66). I had 47 entries in my old Bookqeue v1 queue. It got all but 5. I was trying to figure out which five, and one I entered and it was already there, so the ability to check for dupes would be nice.

Anyone haveing problems, esp the

"Could not find Error retreiving Amazon info" errors should use something like phpadmin and rename their tables in the mt database. Then start reload and MM will try and reinstall. My recommendation: don't upgrade from an earlier db of bookqueuetoo. I just seemd to have problems when I did that.

Hope it helps
